Readymade #1 (Domino's)

The Readymade series is an ongoing experiment in applying the Dadaist concept of “readymade art” to theater. It is an attempt to recontextualize everyday, unrehearsed events as watchable performances, and  a chance to explore the voyeuristic impulse.

In Readymade #1 (Domino’s), the audience looks into the illuminated storefront of a Domino’s Pizza from a second story window across the street. An incognito performer enters, orders a pizza and sits inside for 30 minutes. Whatever happens to occur in the Domino’s and on the street during that time is the content of that performance. In essence, the piece is a curated people watching session – by leaving the events in the piece to chance we create the opportunity for moments to arise which could never have been rehearsed.
